Bobby Kim

After spending most of his life in New York City, Bobby left behind a career in finance in 2011. He is currently based in Costa Rica, but travels the world to teach, train and participate in depth competitions. Bobby was the first instructor in the Americas to achieve Level 3 instructor status with Freediving Instructors International (FII), having been trained by 13-time world record holder and FII founder, Martin Stepanek. Bobby is also an instructor trainer with FII. Bobby's instructors have moved on to become some of FII's most popular and
prolific instructors.

Bobby’s passion is depth training. Though he travels to many exotic places to train including Bali, his favorite dive site is in the US: “I enjoy teaching in the cold and dark waters of the northeast, but my favorite site is Honaunau Bay in Kona, Hawaii. Diving on a line surrounded by spinner dolphins while hearing the sounds of whales singing in the distance is what keeps me going back whenever my schedule allows.”

Before he discovered freediving, Bobby enjoyed a successful amateur motorcycle racing career, which he gave up to pursue his new passion. When Bobby isn’t in or on the water, you might find him on the slopes on skis.
